It seems quite probable that sooner or later our nasty pest could become history.Complete wiped of the face of Earth. Can we live without , or whole ecology collapse?

before ....

aslo advice for those repellent producers to look for another job or opportunity .
Some fish , birds and reptiles may miss the snack too.

after.....

In short. The story goes that by producing this glowing in the dark and infertile mosquito males , whole mating fun doesn't end with offspring. Like a safe sex for everybody, mosquito. No more kids.
After several population whole population will die, extinct like dinosaurs and Moa the ostrich.

Yeah
They been practicing with us for years
Mosquitoes start a feminism movement
begin to have gender equality issues
Start to question gender roles and identity
Push the unnatural as the norm
Then sweep up the disillusioned and confused and break them economically

You could be right. Very soon human mosquitoes will walk to Chemist to buy a flask of well conserved semen from the best source : Just few minutes watching labels and the choice is unlimited > shelved segregated by : Hollywood , sportsmens , billionaires, scientists at the corner too.
which means the humans males becomes completely redundant too. Feminism at its best.

I don't think mosquitoes can be killed off. There are so many of them living in the bush. Untold billions of them. Places like Siberia have zillions of them over a short summer.

I wonder if this sort of approach would just show up evolution in action where some female mosquitos are not fooled by the introduced males and result in a variant that breeds successfully. Evolution can be a clever thing.

The funny is that from the age of Darwinism evolution we entering now a completely new era of Creationism. We are beginning to be able to create creatures that did never exist or even have a chance to come to existence.By cutting and combining DNA, genes we could manipulate to an unlimited extent. Glowing mosquito is one thing. Another research just right now is pointing to the gene that could extend human life by 500%.In now so distant future we will have a completely new category of humans genetically modified! Hopefully not to become mindless killing machines for military purposes.

I don't understand that article. Too technical for me.
Is there a summary somewhere in plain English?

Who don't love lasers!

I hope that the system could be scaled up to conquer locust plaque too, one day in the future.
