You know how a song gets stuck in your head sometimes, good or bad?

I have a new personal record. 3 days now and I haven't stopped humming MGMT's "Electric Feel". Well and truly stuck. When I go to sleep, when I wake up...

(wouldn't let me post the original film clip, so there's this one (???))

Yes, all the other voices have gotten fed up and left.

Had "I'm a hero, like Robert De Niro..." in there for a bit, but it's back again now.

^^my guess is it would be worse if they were singing it..... but then again, if you are deaf... how would a song get stuck in your head...? maybe you would just walk around all day signing it.... that would be heaps worse

Ahh yes,

Any time you find a sneaky sample hidden in a track, but altered enough to not quite pick it (General's is a stones riff IMHO) the tune will stick like supa glue.

A very good trick by the producers, because your melon naturally wants to confirm the sample/tune's it's familiarity, but if it's not quite clicking then it will go on high rotation on Melon FM until the mystery is solved - if ever!

Seems having a high-ish vox is the trick too... Ha ha - or maybe you boys are just disco queens...

A while back heaps of tunes had sneaky, and some not so sneaky - such as French house electro act Rhinocerous - mobile phone rings and even 'bid-di-dit-dit', interferance sounds in the mix just to make you go "oh wait there goes... oh hang on... wait there it is again.."

Very subliminal at times, but tres effective no?

"I know that you believe that you understand what you think I said but I am not sure you realise that what you heard is not what I meant."

It took me a while to get through what you just wrote mate, strewth. I have a vague idea what you're talking about, it reminds me of the songs you can buy from TV stations to go with your TV ad which sound a lot like popular songs from the big artists but at a fraction of the cost to broadcast. Similar sort of thing, no?

Anyway when are we going to have those beers (and get my board bag back)? This weekend is pretty full for me, but we mustn't let it slip.

Ha ha - fair bump, play on Pat.

I just re-read the post and yes it was a case of brain moving to quick for my two-fingered typing. Have edited it to make a bit more sense.

you are close to the mark with production music. Diff is they are trying to get as close to the sound and as recogniseable as poss without legal eagles stepping in. Whereas the sneaky caper is to twist/modify the original sample/riff so that it is tantalsising but not recognisable, so that it keeps bugging you.

Of course there are tossers like Kanye (Mr I am everything in my own world) who just grabs a whole killer tune (ie Daft Punk) and whacks an inane "I am everything in my own world" lyric over the top and claim to be an arteest.. But that is a differant kettle of toss..

Yes I would be keen to sample a..bigger.. faster.. stronger.. brew or two, sometime in the asap region.

I am waiting to hear this arvy if I have to work Fri and Sat night, but would be keen if you can squeeze it as the next couple of weekend are full of (boring) relly nonsense.. Maybe a weeknight would be cool too, and yep I am a Kanye for not returning the board bag yet..

If I'm not working Fri pm I was heading to the Oxford (Mt Hawthorn/Leederville) for some media drinkies if uptight chicks in power suits floats ya boat?
