Well it's obvious law enforcement isn't doing their job properly.
In other countries where law enforcement breaks down, people have had to band together to uphold the law.

Maybe we should start reviewing the competency of the police and the courts, and holding them to a certain standard.
If they don't protect you, and don't allow you to protect yourself... well you're a victim in waiting.
(Try walking around with a helmet, can't even go in to a petrol station)

People are committing these acts bcos they know they can get away with it, and like orcs they have no respect for their fellow man.
People don't speed or park without a ticket, bcos they know they can't get away with it.

Without man made laws then the the law of nature takes over.
But your right about parking fines, people don't do it if there is no chance of getting away with it and the fine is large enough.
However crimes like violence are more passion driven!
Maybe we could shoot them, 'violence begets violence' and bullets are cheap, the world is over populated too! Gee I think iv got the answer:))).....

ill give you a simple example. over a number of years i got down to one point on my licence. prior to this point i wasn't a speed freak but just careless with being observant of the actual speed limit on any given road. well when it suddenly dawned on me that one more fine would result in a loss of licence that would have a massive impact on my work, play, taxiing kids to sport all week and weekends then it was amazing how I was VERY conscious of the consequences in one more lapse in care.

loss of licence is a pretty severe penalty for the average person.

make the penalty for assaulting someone more severe and the problem won't stop entirely but in will reduce significantly.

I reckon the balance is about right. Violence and crime are probably at their lowest in the entire history of mankind. Stronger policing and justice system swaps public violence for State violence.

Absolutley, using the framework of the demerit system reintroduce capital punishment.
Most of these spineless bottom feeders have some sort of history precluding their acts of violence, death is a consequence worth pondering for anyone?

I will probably be in line for a king hit myself for suggesting this, however, we live in a society where parents (in some cases I use that term very loosely) are paid to have children and then subsidised to place their children in day and after school care, having very little control over their childrens upbringing whatsoever. Society also dictates that we can't discipline our kids and we must be guided by University taught scholars (who probably have never raised a child themselves).
Why don't we pay at least one parent to stay at home, (not just the measly family A or B payment - if that is what it is called these days, but a decent amount to encourage that parent to stay at home). The long term benefits would far outway the disavantages I am sure. I think it would also encourage parents to have children for the right reasons, not just as trophies or to finance the big screen TV.

The level of violence has always been there but with the rise of social media, internet news and continuous news coverage across MSN it's never been served up in your face so much as it is now.

So much violence and crime is committed by people who don't give a toss, before, during or after they have done the crime. Whether that be through drugs, alcohol or their values and morals (or lack of). So no amount of threats of incarceration will minimise the risk for many. So that comes to their upbringing as children and interaction with the warm and fuzzy government agencies. All law enforcement and the courts do is try and clean up the mess afterwards; isn't that a little too late?

And I'll slap the next person that says morals and values should be taught in school. Yeah they should, but 'please' and 'thank you' should be included in some of the first words a baby learns. Learning them in a classroom is a little too late.

There's only one thing stupid testo fueled male men understand and that's force. They're asserting their dominance over another person, and trying to also gain status among their gang.

The police in the USA get a bad wrap, but they know how to assert their dominance... it's part of their training.

I've seen some yank cops in action, they go into lockdown mode and people/bystanders/victims/criminals have to lie/sit down and wait to be "processed", get up and you're going to regret it.

Cops over here just aren't cut out for the level of violence that's on the streets these days... I wish there wasn't any violence and ~agree with saffer.
In Sydney you have islander gangs roaming the streets at 2am, looking for trouble... in the US they wouldn't last 30 minutes.

Sorry to say but the vast majority of kids are growing up without respect for teachers, their parents and the law. This knocks on to generation after generation and now it's showing in the standard of kids coming through in our lifetime. Parents can't give a clip to their kids anymore, judges are more interested in keeping their jobs rather than doing their jobs and the justice system is a joke.

Low level crime countries are the ones with strict governments, harsh penalties and good values.

Look at Dubai.. Singapore for example. Step out of line there and you will know about it.

Haha, how do you think that kind of action would go down with the general public and magistrates here Flysurfer? Law Enforcement are having their hands tied more and more. Try some of that stuff you see on "cops" in Australian law enforcement and your face would be gracing the front of a newspaper, your actions would be rerun on the hourly news, the magistrate would lambast you and throw the case out of court, the public would be outraged without looking into the facts, you'd probably lose your job and be left open to civil litigation.

Agreed, there's 40 parents per class of 20 students, but only 1 teacher.

Usually all this is in front of, and condoned by parents, who seem to have given up, or just don't bother.

I agree with you both and to blame the kids is off the mark as its all our responsibility.
There will always be bad kids, parents and people. But it's how we as a society treat them that's an issue, the big stick has never worked well anywhere or time on its own!
Leading by example to others, doing right by each other sets the bar. If you try to be tough then you will see how tough the bad can be, there is no end to what a human can do.
At the end of the day 'it's the fight to better ourselfs that defines who we are'.

I'm sick of the graffiti. There is a wall near my house that is constantly being cleaned and repainted, and you can guarantee that if it is cleaned on Friday, it will covered in graffiti by Saturday. So, why don' they just set up surveillance on Friday night and catch these idiots? Everyone knows the graffiti hot spots. High quality cameras cost a pittance these days. The police or council could easily setup a little box that is self contained and would record for 24 hours, and catch video of who does it. Most the guys are known to local police, and hopefully by the 3rd or 4th time they are caught, the magistrate would do something??? Or maybe not.
