not the best time for wind sports in september. Season really starts in october.
if you happen to get northerlies (which could happen in september) you'll have to go about an hour or so drive out of CBD... southerlies are typically very rare in September (and you want southerlies coz they are on shore winds therefore cleaner and much better).

Knowing what i know, i personally wouldn't even bother bringing the gear to melbourne in september if i was staying for one week only...

october onwards is great though.

The new Australian kiting legislation allows kiting only in backyard swimming pools. The accredited pool must be no more than 50cm deep and be fenced with self latching gates. Water is optional. The beaches are reserved for surfing, windsurfing and topless sunbaking or nude (chicks only). The sunbaking legislation requires that you must be spunky with DD (.).) cups minimum or go to a kiting pool![}:)]
