Crazy price but steak cooked sous vide is pretty amazing. Also a great way to prep a main course of thick rib eyes for a dinner party - they sit there at perfect medium rare so you can enjoy the party. then when it's time for mains, sear them on super hot BBQ for 30 sec's a side and ready to serve. 1 min away from the guests to cook during a party suits me just fine.
Then again, I love standing around the bbq with the boys turning the meat (drinking beer) - everything has it's place and time I guess.

<something else again>

Oh come on! That seems a bit harsh! A steak that you have to vacuum seal in a plastic bag, cook for 2 hours, and then.... take it out and sear it on a hotplate anyway.... well that sounds ideal!

Where can I buy one?

Okay, but surely we can do our own 'seabreeze' version of this? How 'bout a fridge compressor to vacuum them down, some normal vacuum bag material that we would all have lying around.

Who has got the ideas for how to cook it?

Surely you could do it with an old electric frypan filled with water and a home brew temp controller like an STC1000. Poor mans sous vide for about $30.

But really, $800 for what is really just a slow cooker with a more accurate temp controller. Suckers.

You've got to be very accurate with sous vide. temps and times are crucial. If not you give the dinner guests salmonella. OOOppps! But yeah there are plenty of DIY sous vide ideas on the googler.

I'm hardly about to waste my time trying but my brew temp controller is good for 1/10 of a degree and you can control the temp range between it cycling on/off.

And they will catch on, the next series of Masterchef can't be too far away.

Is Sous Vide the way that Hogs Breath cook their steaks? Their menu talks about their steaks being cooked for 18 hours, and I always wondered how the heck could you cook a steak for 18 hours without drying it to nothing, but this could be the way. Anyone know?

Just shake the milk in a bottle... For extra froth you can microwave for 40 secs.
