The guy certainly has a great stage presence but I doubt the veracity of of what you said:- "Aparently he was going to be the lead singer for the Rolling Stones, before Mick Jagger came along,".
The vid says 1979, so he would be 10 years at least too young to be a contender, plus he is a little bit too country to fit the "R&B" mood of the time.
The Beatles and the Stones kicked off big in the mid 60s (ie gained a world audience). They had been going in the UK for a few years before 1965.
I can't say I have a favourite member of the Rolling Stones but the Stones are pretty much my favourite band.
Charlie Watts is the one I find the most interesting though. When he is interviewed there is absolutely no crap about him. He is dead set on ground zero.
Here is he playing:- The precision of a surgeon.
And here is what Keef has to say about him:-
What I am trying to find on the U choob is a recent interview with Charlie where he describes himself as just a drummer in a rock and roll band that happens to have the best front man in the world, Mick Jagger.
Regardless of what you think of Mick personally, you have to admit that his talent is brilliant as is their long standing line up of Mick, Keith, Charlie And Ronnie.
One cannot forget some of the great performers that have played with them frequently over the years, particularly the sax player and the vocalists.
Charlie is really quite a conservative type of guy. Did you know he was the President of "The English Sheep Dog Association" for a while??
The sax player in this number has performed with them many times over the years and Ronnie does a great solo at the end. Mick does a good job with the blues harp too.
Sorry, I can't find the Charlie interview I was looking for but "I am just a drummer in a rock and roll band that happens to have the best front man in the world, Mick Jagger." is what he said.
Just another great number to polish off the post. Those black girls are just so sexy.
