Would you think of it if you had read several signs stating as much on your walk down the path towards the whale? There are several signs, clearly displayed so it can't be said that these people didn't know the potential consequences.
Nonetheless, I can't understand the witch hunt any more than I can understand the desire to stand on a rotting carcase. Kids will be kids I guess but when I took my students for a look from a distance, there were adults doing the same thing and even a dog being allowed to chew on the whales tail.
It's a facinating sight and well worth a look. The witch hunt, actions of some people and penalties for those actions are all equally hard to comprehend though.
