Now there is a proposal to cull kangaroos.

Should humans just adapt as the risk would have been know?

I think it's best just to be one one the popular species.

Yes a tough one I acknowledge but I would like my family, friends and myself to be able to surf in reasonable safety.

I'm told...............that Kangaroo numbers are much larger than they would be naturally. The reason being access to year round water by way of stock troughs and the amount grass available due to clearing. Add to this a large number of small farms being bought by city farmers who don't stock the properties and don't do their own culling to feed the dogs and guess what each doe has 3 joeyes on the go at anyone time.

I know my car insurance premium increased $100 last year alone due to kangaroo numbers in my area.

Red kangaroos hop along on their powerful hind legs and do so at great speed. A red kangaroo can reach speeds of over 35 miles (56 kilometers) an hour. Their bounding gait allows them to cover 25 feet (8 meters) in a single leap and to jump 6 feet (1.8 meters) high.

Well then, they definitely need insurance and a crash helmet should be mandatory

as long as my patch of water will not be infested with swimming kanguroo I would not worry mandatory life jackets for them

but there are already signs on Coomera river waring about crossing kanguroo

that must be the same wag hanging signs about jumping koalas on my street.

1) teach roos to swim
2) teach roos to surf
3) surfing roos get eaten by sharks
4) safer for surfers, safer for drivers

Best reply so far Galah

But just maybe the roos will get in a few good punches and kicks thereby acting as a natural deterrent.

Woops I am wrong roos should not got into the sharks natural environment.

due to the sharks penchant to expand food groups (latest reported was camel) this idea may work with mutual benefits to all albeit the slower roo's

Viruses are not actually considered "life" by most scientists... Maybe Salmonella is a better argument.
