SUP Surfing Snowdonia Wave Garden

The worlds newest wave pool opened last week in Snowdonia, Wales, and it's proving to be one of the best and most unique around. The Starboard SUP crew got to test it out first, and they give it the thumbs up. It's called the Snowdonia Wave Garden, and it's not like traditional wave pools such as the Wadi Adventure in Abu Dhabi. Using an underwater blade that runs down a central pier, the Wave Garden requires surfers to turn towards the wall! Ideal for stand up paddle boards which can get the most power possible from the 2-4ft artificial swell, expect to see several SUP competitions stopping in the UK to take advantage of the 24/7 surfing. Zane Schweitzer was the first stand up paddler to test it out, saying "Stay close to the wall, and stay high on the wave. Unlike a normal wave I don't think you utilize the bottom as much. Stay high and continue the speed more. It's definitely a different feel." Surrounded by beautiful Welsh mountains, and featuring all the on-shore attractions you might expect from such an establishment, the Snowdonia Wave Garden is open right now! Don't expect to book a ticket to Wales and paddle out however, because it's completely booked out for more than three weeks in advance! Pricing varies depending on how much time you book in the water, but for one hour expect to pay the equivalent of about 2 years worth of wax, or a cheap pair of brand name boardies - that's ?45 for an hours session!
