With such a quiet, eco friendly way of getting around - there's a whole stack of places you can explore along Australia's coastline that might not be accessible by other watercraft.
Using you're muscles has disadvantages - like the fact that you need to stay pretty close to shore, but in our experience thats the best place to be!
You'll discover pretty quickly where to look if you want to see some swimming critters; check the rock pools, through the reefs, in amongst the seaweed or right next to the rock walls for starters. If you feel like looking at things that won't sting, bite or incapacitate you - jump in the car and head inland to one of the creeks, rivers or dams for a calmer experience.
One of the coolest things about paddling is that you can explore national parks and protected zones not accessible to noisy power boats. Several companies are running Stand up paddle tours to some pretty awesome places. Check out some penguins in Melbourne, explore Tomakin Cove
