| Hobart skipper Rob Gourlay considered pulling his team Tas Marine Constructions out of the Hydro Tasmania Three Peaks Race after one of his runners became seriously ill during the 65km Mt Strzelecki run.
Victorian Chris Stevens was sea-sick on the 90nm passage to Flinders Island and became badly dehydrated on the run. He and partner Donovan Jacka, also of Victoria, walked more than 20km around the course.
But after returning to the boat and resting for 15 minutes, Stevens decided to continue racing.
Tas Marine Constructions was one of the last boats to leave the Lady Barron wharf, following a string of departures including fourth-placed Peccadillo, Sullivans Cove Whisky, Team Whistler, Pisces and Haphazard.
The leading boats left in a zephyr and took hours to move out of sight of the island. At the most recent radio sked at 10am, both Wesbury-Mersey Pharmacy and Neil Buckby Motors Subaru reported the same position, just south of the island.
A light south-westerly pushed the later starters out of Franklin Sound, but conditions are forecast to be extremely light and variable in the next 24 hours, predicting an arrival time in Coles Bay of Sunday afternoon.
