The Victorian yacht Veloce has taken out a somewhat rare line and handicap double in Hobart?s iconic yachting event, the King of the Derwent. In fact, she is the first Victorian yacht to win since Skandia Wild Thing won the double in 2004. On an afternoon of light and variable winds, Veloce, an Elliott 44 skippered by Phil Simpfendorfer from Sandingham Yacht Club, broke away from the fleet to take honours by more than 14 minutes and hold her time on the strong competition of local Tasmanian, Victorian and one international entrant.
