Testing conditions for Masters in Geelong

The first race of the Australian Masters Games was held on Geelong's Corio Bay today, in conditions which would have caused problems for their younger counterparts.

The fleet commenced racing shortly after the expected start time of 1355, in a 17 - 19 knot breeze. The fluctuating westerly, caused havoc with the fleet, with capsizing a frequent observation. Chris Parker showed the fleet the way in his A class catamaran, leading from start to finish. The southerly seabreeze came in halfway through the race with 29 knot gusts, causing the PRO Rob Lyle to abandon sailing after race one was completed. (Two races were scheduled).

With an eclectic fleet of classes including Tasars, JB505's, Lasers, AClass catamarans, Contenders, Hobie catamaran's, Impulses, Mosquitos, Arrows, OK Dinghy's, and the sole Moth foiler, all sailing on the same course, it certainly made interesting viewing and shooting.
