In the Radial fleet there were 28 entries from NSW, WA, QLD, VIC, NT and New Zealand. All but one of the top placed Youths in the country were at the event. For the sailors gearing up for the national and youth titles in December this year, this event was a great chance to see how their training was going and how they were rated against the current crop of youth sailors.

Tasmanian Sailing Academy and Tasmanian Institute of Sport members Jones, Noye, Langford, Pullen and Jones have come away from the event with very encouraging results. Over the past four months, with their coach Richard Scarr, they have been training four mornings a week at 6.30am - whilst it is dark.

It is about five degrees when they leave the shore, and some times it's less!! They then go off to school at 8.20am. During their lunch times at school they are doing boxing or circuit sessions with Scarr three times a week and the afternoons three times a week they are in the Tasmanian Institute of Sport Gym with their TIS trainer Tim Mosey. Other times they are on their bikes with Scarr doing hill sessions and interval training on the flat.

Racing in Queensland was in a mixture of conditions, which tested both the fleet and the officals. The last race of the event was very tense with all four Tasmanians having to stay out of trouble and fight off the other competitors. Sailing to the finish line was so close, it was not clear what the final result would be until they looked up the results on the Notice board.

TSA/TIS members George Jones , Elliot Noye, Rohan Langford and Angus Barton will be taking part in the World Laser Radial Youth Championship 2009 Mon 3rd August 2009 - Mon 10th August 2009 in Karatsu, Japan. events.laserinternational.org/en/events/overview/100z35
