A rarely seen painting of Rani, the first winner of the now world-renowned ocean yacht race, the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, is on display at the Maritime Museum of Tasmania from next Tuesday. The famous marine artist, the late Jack Earl, who also competed in the inaugural Sydney Hobart in his ketch Kathleen, created the painting, depicting Rani crossing the finish line off Castray Esplanade on the morning 2 January 1946.
