Ocean going police boats will accompany the fleet down the New South Wales south coast and into Bass Strait, while others will be on standby at Flinders Island and on the Tasmanian east coast during the long yacht races from Sydney, Melbourne and Launceston this week. ,/b> The water police support is an ongoing presence at sea in readiness for possible search and rescue operations that has been maintained for the past 25 years.
