Phil Lotz's Arethusa leads NYYC Swan 42 Nationals

However, a 13th in Race 3 saw Phil Lotz (New Canaan, CT) and Arethusa take the lead. Behind Fisher, now in second, is John Hele (Toronto, Can.), sailing Daring. The results are pending protests.

The boats sailed three races on a gray and lumpy Rhode Island Sound, and winds were 15 knots from the south, moving right to the southwest.

The NYYC Swan 42, launched in 2006, is the eighth one-design class created by the NYYC since 1900. It was designed by German and Mani Frers and built by Nautor's Swan. Some 25 are in the NYYC's fleet; a like number are elsewhere in the world.

Lotz's Arethusa and Fisher's Bandit are among four yachts competing to be the NYYC's entry in the NYYC Invitational Cup (IC), September 15-19th sponsored by Rolex Watch U.S.A., Sperry Top-Sider and Nautor's Swan. John Hele is on the team from the Royal Canadian Yacht Club.

The IC will feature world-class, Corinthian sailing among 19 yacht club teams from 14 countries aboard these one-design NYYC Swan 42s. The Class has generously made their yachts available for charter.
