Olympics Australian Men and Women 470's - Gold!

Nathan Wilmot and Malcolm Page went into the Men's 470 medal race with a 22 point lead. They needed only to sail in the race to make the Gold medal a reality, but the Sydney pair sealed their victory with a race win, leading from start to finish.
Elise Rechichi and Tessa Parkinon have won Australia's second sailing Gold medal today, taking victory in the Women's 470 medal race.
The Perth women, who are the youngest crew in the Australian Sailing Team at 22 and 21, went into the race with an 18 point lead. They played a safe race, covering their biggest threat The Netherlands throughout. The Australians crossed the line 9th to finish with a clear 10 point lead to claim the Gold Medal.
470 Coach:
Both the Men's 470 and Women's 470 crews are coached by Victor Kovalenko who coached both the Australian 470 Men's and Women's Teams to Gold in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games and in 1996 he coached the Ukraine Teams to 470 Men's Gold and Women's Silver!..
The good news continued for Australia with good results in other class racing today.
In the Tornado Class, Darren Bundock and Glenn Ashby are on equal points with the leading Spanish Team, who are ahead on count back after scoring more 1st place results. The top two teams have a twelve point cushion over the third placed Greek Team.
Iain Murray and Andrew Palfrey had a great start to the day finishing race 5 in 2nd place following on from this with an 11th and 10th to sit them in 15th overall with three races remaining. The Swedish Team is leading from the British by three points with the French team in third with 32 points.
Sarah Blanck goes into tomorrow's Laser Radial medal race in 4th place overall, just 10 points off third and 14 points off second. However, the USA's Anna Tunnicliffe, sits in the lead with a 21 point gap on Blanck.
In the Women's Windsurfing (RS:X Class), Jessica Crisp still has everything to play for as the points at the top of the leader board tighten. In today's racing, Crisp scored a 14th and a sixth. Crisp is now fifth overall with 41 points, just four points away from third placed Spain and 11 points from the Italian leader.
Meanwhile, Tom Slingsby will not go through to the Laser medal race and has finished his regatta 23rd overall. It is a disappointing result for the ISAF World Ranked Number One but the Olympic experience Slingsby has gained will be invaluable for future success. We will see more of this young star within the sport of sailing for many years to come.
