Marine industry support for The Sons of Redcliffe Benefit Evening

A tragic marine accident and the loss of two dynamic men off the coast of Morton Island last month has hit the community of Redcliffe hard. A benefit has been organised to raise money for their young families.

John Meiers and Jason Warry both, 38, were popular Redcliffe anglers, young fathers, best of friends and worked for Cunningham Marine.

The team at Cunningham Marine feel as though they have lost two members of their close-knit family and will be holding a benefit fundraising evening for the young families left behind.

Owner of Cunningham Marine, Bruce Cunningham says Meiers and Warry were two star players in the team that lived and breathed fishing.

"They even had a following of 'fishing groupies' that would come in to the shop just to talk fishing stories with them. They were so passionate when speaking of fishing; lures would sound like diamond rings," Cunningham says.

"Jason and John are dearly missed and the community support for their young families has been overwhelming.

"We would like to make sure the families of Jason and John will be all right in the future, at least financially, after the loss of their husbands and fathers," he said.

The Sons of Redcliffe Benefit Evening will be held on Saturday May 30 6.30pm at The Ox, 330 Oxley Avenue, Margate.

The evening will involve a three course dinner and drinks, a Gala Auction, raffles, door prizes and celebrity speakers, yet to be announced.
