Twenty-five years on from its line honours victory in the great Australian ocean classic, iconic Kiwi Whitbread maxi Lion New Zealand has returned to the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race with three offspring from the original winning crew from 1984 aboard.

Sarah-Jane Blake, daughter of the late famous Sir Peter Blake, who steered Lion New Zealand to victory in 1984, Sam Cray, son of 1984 crewmember Godfrey Cray, and Conrad Gundry, son of 1984 crewmember Simon Gundry, will join the rest of the crew to celebrate the silver anniversary of the boat's win.

NZ sailing legend Sir Peter Blake was murdered in Brazil on 6 December 2001 while on an environmental monitoring voyage. Lion New Zealand was built in 1984 for Sir Peter Blake and was his entry in the 1985/86 Whitbread Round The World yacht race. In Sir Peter's words 'Lion was built to withstand the rigours of the southern ocean bordering Antarctica.'

This will be Sarah-Jane and Sam's first race to Hobart.
