Cancellation of all scheduled races on June 23 at Kieler Woche.

No action today on all race courses! Due to strong south westerly breeze (22 to 27 knots) increasing to a moderate gale with westerly shower gusts and wind speed between 30 and 40 knots the Race Committee decided to cancel all races on the eight race courses of the International Part of Kieler Woche 2008.

The Offshore fleet however finished one race with a shortened course in the area of Strande Bay to comply with the regatta schedule of the ORC International fleet (47 yachts/2 starts) for the International German Championship. (hmb)

DAY 2 report:

After yesterday's first race day, the world-wide known 'yellow jersey' was introduced to Kieler Woche 2008 (June 21 to June 29). Like in cycling the No. 1 crew of each boat class will wear the 'yellow jersey' on a day to day basis, thus defending the overall lead of the preceding race day. Additionally, the overall second and third teams wear green coloured (second overall) and pink jerseys (third overall), which may also change from one crew to another on a daily basis.

Until midday the race committee waited for adequate breeze and even had to abandon the first race due to thunderstorm and unsteady breeze. A low pressure front crossed North Germany during the day which included variable South/South Westerly winds 10 to 16 knots, overcast and humid temperatures of 17 - 21 degrees Celsius.

Nevertheless, the numerous entries of following popular boat classes reflect the international participation of Kieler Woche 2008 as ISAF Grade 1 event: The top team of the 29er fleet after six races wearing the yellow jersey on Monday, June 23rd, are the French K. Fischer/G. Gouron. The green jersey goes to J. Liu/S. Cheng, SIN, followed by the pink jersey (third overall) B. Diamond/F. Hampshire, GBR.

Victory in the Formular 18 fleet after five races changed to J. Gosche/H. Pegel, GER, followed by yesterday's leading brothers Helge and Christian Sach, GER as tomorrow's green' team and P. Johansson/D.Winberg, SWE as pink/third overall.

Top scorer of the international Contender fleet is the Dane S. Andreasen with C. Homeier, GER as overall second and J. Lunding, DEN as third after six races. Sunday's three races in the single-handed OK class resulted in T. Hansson-Mild, SWE holding the lead of the fleet (with one discard) and wearing the yellow jersey. Second overall after six races is Nick Craig, GBR, followed by P. Pawlaczyk, POL, being third overall and wearing the pink jersey tomorrow.

Special attention attracts the 'developing' Moth Class with part of the fleet using Blade Riders. Again, the top three teams represent three different nations: Adam May, GBR, will wear the yellow jersey, followed by S. Kloppenburg, GER in green/second overall and M. Gravare, SWE in pink jersey on Monday, June 23rd.

With more than five races being sailed within the first two days the race committee is on the safe side having a Kieler Woche winner in most of the 16 international boat classes of the first part of Kieler Woche 2008. (hmb)
