The Sailing Scene International Hobie 16 Youth Challenge has already been a great success with over 40 of the best sailors from Australia and the South Pacfic turning up. A fantastic training day was held on Friday.

Friday morning was spent practising starts with International coach Traks Gordon running things. That afternoon a marathon from Careel Bay around Lion Island and return was held with the locals winning the Youth (Jason Waterhouse and Lisa Darmannin) and Junior (Lucas Price) sections. The youth finished the day partying at the local bowling centre.

Before the racing on Saturday the current Hobie 16 World Champion, Mick Butler gave an overview of the things he does to set up his boat with racing kicking off straight after.

With strong NW winds the racing was very challenging even for the experienced 'open' sailors.

In the Youth, Jason and Lisa are on top while in the opens local club stalwarts, Andrew and Maria Nelson are leading the pack. In the Juniors there is quite a tussle between Lucas Price, Christian Renouf and Ejay Schaffer. A pool party was held to finnish things off at the home of Upu Kila, the PBSC Commodore.

Racing continues on Sunday and Monday though and anything can happen.
