For the past month New South Wales couple Bob and Anne Bower have beencruising Tasmanian waterways, including the Tamar River, Macquarie Harbour and Lake Peddar, in their little trailable yacht, but this weekend the creature comforts of their 'sailing caravan' will be left ashore.

Out will come the racing sails when they are joined by their Hobart-basedson Martin, a teacher at The Friends School, in contesting the Crown Series Bellerive Regatta in their Sonata 7, Bosun.

Bosun is the only interstate entrant in a fleet of more than 20 boats entered for the Trailable Yacht and Sports Boat divisions of the Crown Series Bellerive Regatta. However, as the regatta is also the Tasmanian State championship for Trailable Yachts, nearly half the fleet are from northern clubs.

'We've so far spent a wonderful month in Tasmania, just cruising on yourwonderful waterways, towing the boat between the Tamar, Macquarie Harbourand, just recently, the huge Lake Peddar at Strathgordon,' Bob Bower said in Hobart today. 'We came across Bass Strait on the ferry after spending ten months towing the boat behind our Toyota Landcruiser around Australia, exploring so many different waterways.'

When at home at Thirroul, near Wollongong in the NSW South Coast, theBowers race regularly with the Illawarra Yacht Club. 'We won't be at thefront of the fleet in the Crown Series, but we are looking forward to sailing on the River Derwent,' said Bob, adding that they may also contest the Cygnet Regatta the following weekend before returning to the mainland.

Bosun, crewed by Bob and Anne competed in this events invitation race for the Trailable Championships, sailing just two-up in the 15-17 knot seabreeze that kicked up a short chop on the Derwent. 'It was a non-spinnaker race, so we handled the conditions well and sailed up to our handicap,' Rob added.

The Trailable Yacht and Sports Boat divisions of the Crown Series Bellerive Regatta has attracted boats from Wynyard, Port Dalrymple, Port Esperance,Tamar, Mersey, Lindesfarne and Midway Point yacht clubs along with the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania and Derwent Sailing Squadron.
