'Typical Grand Banks weather... damp, cold and foggy, with one exception... no wind,' reports Duggie Gillespie, skipper of New York, the current overall leader in the Clipper 07-08 Round the World Yacht Race. 'We have been drifting about for what seems like days. What little wind that is about, is really patchy.'
Gillespie's report to the Race Office sums up the story of day three of Race 13: light winds and lots of fog. The conditions are keeping the crews on their toes and the teams very close together. westernaustralia2011.com is still the most southerly boat and could gain an advantage when the low pressure system due later today kicks in.
Race Director, Joff Bailey, says, 'Several of the yachts have fallen into wind holes and this has mixed up the positions a little but all ten yachts are separated by just ten nautical miles so the racing is still very close.'
