CYCA Quiet Little Drink Cocktail Party for the Youth Sailing Academy and to present 25 and 40 Hobarts Awards.

This annual affair has been going for many years now. Back from the time it started in 1993, our efforts have been particularly directed to the YSA (Youth Sailing Academy). For some years a number of our members sponsored the original Elliott 'Quiet Little Drink.' With her leaving the fleet, we have still assisted the youngsters with various other initiatives.

The simple concept is for as many as possible to attend a get together, pay $25 entrance for the privilege and get nothing for it! As we, therefore, get 100% revenue (having virtually zero expenses!), we direct funds to various YSA projects.

Last year, Pacific Sailing School donated two 'Sea Safety' courses worth $500 ea. (The QLD then matched these with another two). Of these, we presented two to assist the then, two Hobart Race initiates. Terry Wise is repeating this generosity so that in turn, there will be six free courses available for selected YSA Hobart first timer candidates.

In 2007, after consultation with various QLD friends and officials of the YSA, we presented as 'Youth Academy Hobart Awards', replicas of the '25 Hobarts' plaques, to each of the youngsters from the YSA who completed their 'first' Hobart'. There have been some 14 presented so far, which is testimony to the value of the YSA to ocean racing crew development. This year, two sailors from the 2008 Hobart, Will Parker and David Thackray, will receive their presentation on the night.

All such recipients are advised to, 'Come back in 24 years', to receive their 25 plaques!

The QLD group have a strong interest in the linking of CYC sail training with its ocean racing orientation. Our advice is that the YA HA award will be consistent with this and are prized.

Commodore Matt Allen asked again that the Solas cruise prize be drawn on the night.

We will be honouring Syd Fisher and Col Wildman with '40' plaques.

Receiving '25' plaques will be Graeme Ainley, Robert Green and John Walker.

The Associates will present The Jane Tate Perpetual Trophy medallions to '15' ladies Vanessa Dudley and Sally Gordon.

Matt Allen has invited a contingent of Royal Brighton 'Birthday Boys' to come up this year. The group comprise a fraternity which has had annual 'keg' get-togethers since the 1940's. At last count, there were 22 booked to join us on the night. (Evidently, included is a good sprinkling of Hobart racers).

Rations provided by the Breakfast Club who always have a tireless team providing finger food GRATIS. This is an annual event for them and underpins the success of the night.
