BlackMatch joint leaders in Korea Match Cup
BlackMatch Racing report on the second day of racing at the Korea Match racing Cup, where they share the joint lead in the Korea Match Racing Cup:
Hi all from BlackMatch on the day 2 of racing here in Korea,
Today we finished off the first round robin and after losing three races yesterday, we went through today unbeaten to have 8 wins and 3 losses.
At the end of racing today we have raced everyone at the regatta once and not only have we secured a spot in the quarter final, but we are currently topping the table tied with Dane, Jesper Radich who has also completed the round robin. There are still races remaining in the first round robin for some of the other teams, but we are very happy with the position we are in and look forward to seeing who we will race in the quarter finals.
Perhaps our closest race of the day was against world #2 and current World Match Racing Tour Champion, Ian Williams and his Pindar Racing Team. In a hectic pre-start we timed our run to the start-line perfectly and won the favoured pin end of the line, forcing Ian to tack off. Our advantage was such that we managed to cross them off the start-line and defend our lead up the first beat. The determined Brits made inroads on the first downwind when they sailed in better wind pressure, but a costly crew error at the bottom mark rounding ultimately gave us too much of an advantage and we sailed away for the victory.
The next stage of the regatta will be a best of five quarter final to see what four teams will progress through to the semi finals. The top qualifier will have the choice of who they are to race, then the runner up will have the next choice and so on. Tomorrow we will wait to see who will take us on in the quarter final and this next stage of the regatta should be completed by tomorrow evening.
A special thank you to our sponsors, FedEx Express, Ross Munro from Line 7 and Waiwera Infinity, their ongoing support is making this opportunity possible for the BlackMatch boys and we hope we can earn our spot in the Semi finals of the 2008 Korea Match Cup tomorrow. To the RNZYS and everyone else thank you for your support.
