2010 Singapore Youth Olympic Games - Aust team selection information

Yachting Australia has released the policy for the nomination and selection of sailing representatives to represent Australia at the 2010 Singapore Youth Olympic Games.

The must be read in conjunction with' ISAF Qualification System - 1st Summer Youth Olympic Games in 2010'.
The Event

The inaugural Youth Olympic Games will be held in Singapore from 14-26 August 2010.

The sailing events will be held in the following classes:
? Boys Windsurfer (Bic Techno 293);
? Girls Windsurfer (Bic Techno 293);
? Boys One Person Dinghy (Byte CII); and
? Girls One Person Dinghy (Byte CII).
To be eligible athletes must be born between 1 January 1994 and 31 December 1995.

Nomination and Selection Process
There are three components to the Youth Olympic Games Nomination and Selection Process:
1. Qualifying the National Olympic Committee, in this case the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) for a place/s at the Youth Olympic Games;
2. Gaining nomination by Yachting Australia to the AOC; and
3. Selection by the AOC for the Youth Olympic Games.

The Australian Youth Championships to be held at Largs Bay Sailing Club, SA from 6-10 January 2010 will be the Continental Qualifier for Oceania for the 2010 Youth Olympic Games.
Oceania comprises Australia, New Zealand, American Samoa, Cook Islands, FSo Micronesia, Fiji, Guam, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tahiti , Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.

The Continental Qualifier for Oceania will take place in the following Events:
? Boys Windsurfer (Bic Techno 293);
? Girls Windsurfer (Bic Techno 293);
? Boys One Person Dinghy (Laser 4.7); and
? Girls One Person Dinghy (Laser 4.7).

There is a maximum of two places available per Event for Oceania. However, there is a maximum of one male and one female athlete per NOC for all the Events e.g. if Australia qualified athletes in all four Events, Australia would only be able to send one female and one male athlete.
