Was chatting to Dave Basher today in the water about how our waves in SA are weak and fat so in a LB you need something that will give you speed and glide on the wave.
What do you think you need in a longboard to achieve this??
Looking for some ideas around some options for a new 9'1. I snapped my wife's mal a while back and have since picked up a good 9'6 single fin traditional log from Chris Garratt. While I am enjoying the new board heaps I think the extra length as well as the rolled rails through the tail etc have not been so user friendly for my wife who is reasonably capable but not exactly Pam Burridge.
So I'm looking for a 9'1 that is a bit more performance oriented (so I can also get some good use) while also being reasonable forgiving and also durable so it can be given a good hiding when the swell is up and the current on the points is strong. The sister inlaws Takama is currently providing some inspiration.
I'm based on the Gold Coast and ideally would be aiming for a good second hand board as most of the newies seem around the $1,500 mark which is a bit of stretch.
Looking for suggestions on models for the below list along with other options and possibly even advice on the whereabouts of a suitable second handy. Over to the brains trust . . . .

Still need to wet n dry a little, but she's come up pretty sweet I reckon. I nick name her "the banana boat"
Single Concave To Double Concave Plenty of rocker on the rails, but not so much with the single concave scooping it out through the middle.
Can't wait to get her in the water...still deciding on fins, wish I could afford 3 sets. Probably gonna go a set with a 6' centre, coz I already have a 7' & a 9' centres...Was thinking of going with a 8', but don't think it would be as variable as having a 6' in the mix
