Kiss theory (Keep It Simple Stupid) This is a thread to discuss over design on a couple of race boards in the past . Just to create some friendly banter and not talk about foils for once.
Looking at the Merimbula post that showed the Coreban Turbo 14 also reminded me of the Puma Laird 14 footer . The money that got sunk into these board designs was off the planet and they produced two very expensive duds. It was like NASA v Local shapers and they lost so badly. I just don't understand how they went so wrong with model and tank testing to produce 2 lemons. Simple reason they don't paddle or surf. Yacht racing is yacht racing and Sup racing is just that. You use a paddle not a sail. I know these videos run a few years back but come on those are fall on your sword designs.
Have a look at the videos below of the 2 boards , then one of my old videos of the JP 14 how clean it runs (I'm not sponsored by JP anymore just only video I had ) Yes no one is riding it and it's being towed by an electric fishing reel but it proves you don't need to be naval architect to get it right. You would get the same result with a Naish , One , Starboard , Sunova , DC , Deep , Fanatic ect ect. ( sorry if I left anyone out but you know what I mean) The Turbo and Puma track and drag like a Marlin lure. These are ocean designed boards and not flat water. Both very tippy.
Just proves a point that your local shaper can produce something better and more efficient than the most high end naval architects which I think is very cool. Share your thoughts flame suit on.
